I have successfully cloned my drive using Acronis True Image. I used the Windows XP, FAT32, all volumes; automatic product type. My cloned drive has been used successfully to restore Windows (after I upgraded to Windows 10) on another computer. I then saw from the support site that Acronis Disk Director can be used from Windows 10 to clone again, from Windows 10. But I’m getting an error with it. The original drive being cloned is a USB drive from a Toshiba Satellite U850. The cloned drive is a Western Digital Caviar Green 5TB. The original drive has the company logo. The cloned drive has a sticker from Toshiba Satellite U850 on it. The error is: Operation not supported. I even tried to do a blank cloning using Windows XP on another computer but still got the same problem. The cloned drive is now recognized as a USB Drive formatted as FAT32 by Windows XP. My updated BIOS is version F6.19 but no update to support NDIS 6.5 yet. Other non Acronis products require NDIS 6.5. After the clone is made I will have to also get some drivers from Toshiba for the Satellite

I’m a long time True Image user, having started using the product back in about 1994 or 95. For the last 18 years, I’ve used True Image to backup all of my personal data. I’ve been using various flavors of True Image the last 10 years. My most recent backup run was using the Windows-only version on my old PC that I use for just about anything. It worked great. So I bought a new PC and installed Windows 7. I figured I’d just jump back into True Image and upgrade to the 64-bit version. It does see all of my internal drives. They’re all formatted as NTFS. It also sees my 1st generation Western Digital VelociRaptor, so I’m happy about that. So it’s running the True Image 11.0 build 64-bit on my PC. But when I run the backup, it says there’s too many files in a single directory, and that I’ve exceeded the maximum number of backup volumes. Then it asks if I want to copy the entire drive, even though I just did a backup of a 40 gig folder. I chose a subfolder and it said everything was backed up. Then it says there’s no time remaining to do the backup. The drive is only 50 GB. It’s my primary backup drive and my only backup. It’s 300 GB capacity. I’ve done several backup runs, and the last one was back in November.

As highlighted in the Acronis press release, Disk Director will allow for copying of full, labeled drive images to USB storage devices, a great thing to have when you need to save a PC and your data, and as a way of creating a recovery image or similar of a hard drive in the event of a fault.

The capacity of the disks you use will be limited by the space available on the device or if the device is removable, the capacity of the data connection (USB connection). A typical 320GB USB flash disk has a maximum capacity of around 2TB.

Acronis Disk Director is designed to be used with any hard disk drive formatted using either the MBR (Master Boot Record) or GPT (GUID Partition Table) partition format. Drive format is something you have to remember to set up during installation of the software, which will open up the potential to utilise all the space on your drive. This is usually located in the Utilities menu and is activated by clicking on Format Disk option.

The search function is something of a beast and requires the creation of a new folder, which is not intuitive. The fact that you can only search for files and not folders, means that you cannot locate specific files or directories like a file/folder search. The new Acronis Disk Director now has a built-in search function which means you don’t have to create a new folder to locate specific files or directories.

The capacity of the disks you use will be limited by the size of your hard disk (Windows) Partition or available space, and Disk Director will be used in create partition to protect data from operating system bugs and malware infections.

Acronis Disk Director New Version

Acronis Disk Director New Version

I have Acronis Disk Director Registration Key 9 and have an external backup drive that is NTFS formatted. Because it is not formatted Acronis Disk Director will not be able to read this external drive, does anyone know what format it needs to be in to allow Acronis Disk Director to read it?

My Acronis Disk Director Support contact (via customer support) has advised me that there will be no support for DD12.5 for current hard drives and advises that a migration path must be followed to migrate to another version. This may be possible but the only direction he gives is to install DD 10 on a new HDD.
Does anyone know if there is a way to migrate an existing hard drive to a different Acronis Disk Director version?

Both TI16 and DD12 will be a bit of a pain to re- re-install without the ability to R&D prior to attempt the re-install. Acronis may have to rethink the promotion of DD11 re-install at https://www.kde.org/community/linux-iso/kubuntu-full/ I can understand the Dell and/or Lenovo/Acer PC-Suppliers need to have the latest operating system drivers and new releases installed to take full advantage of the new UEFI support as well as ensuring the OS is configured to run in UEFI mode (rather than Intel or IDE hard drives).

So, I may not even have a single disk left in Acronis after DD11 or DD12 (or even TI16) install? I have no idea how to get to the files to re- name a disk since, I presume, the link was re-written during the upgrade? I can’t even find the drive to re- identify the drive in the list in Windows 10 (control panel – system and security settings – system – hard disk manager).
